The Ageing Process.
As we age our skin can start to sag. Wrinkles appear and skin can discolour. These visible signs of ageing are due to loss of tension and elasticity, poor collagen formation, and an inability to bind water. Skin care and cosmoceutical products can address these problems. Sun and the Ageing Process. 90% of skin damage is caused by the sun. When the skin burns and tans, uneven skin tone, freckles and pigmentation may become visible. The skin becomes drier and over time rather leathery. With prolonged sun exposure skin dehydrates, pigmentation increases, texture becomes poorer and lines and wrinkles form. |
Skin Care Ingredients Explained
AHA’s/BHA’s.
AHA’s (alpha hydroxyl acids) help to refine superficial skin texture, increase skin hydration and increase dermal and epidermal thickness. AHA’s gently loosen dead skin cells without removing the skin’s moisture barrier. The result is fresher more youthful skin. BHA’s (salicylic acid) have the ability to penetrate and clean out pores, as well as exfoliate skin surfaces. BHA’s are useful for acne prone skin. They also have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Antioxidants. Vitamin E. Helps reduce UV (Ultra-Violet) damage; may inhibit pollutant metabolism; acts as an anti inflammatory. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is needed to produce collagen in the skin. It also helps prevent free radical damage caused by UV exposure and environmental pollutants. Less pigmentation and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles results. Vitamin K. Helps to reduce dark circles and puffiness in the eye area. Vitamin K is also known for its ability to aid wound healing. |
Vitamin B (Niacinamide).
Vitamin B has been shown to stimulate collagen and new fibroblasts. It is also very effective in reducing skin dehydration and increasing skin hydration levels. Vitamin A Derivatives. Vitamin A helps to refine skin texture, making skin softer and smoother. It can improve physiological cell regeneration and reverse dermal damage caused by UV exposure. Vitamin A works as an anti inflammatory and increases cellular mitosis. It can assist in the reduction of blocked pores and pigmentation resulting in overall improvement of skin radiance. Botanicals. Botanical properties of plants can be extracted to produce topical botanical skin products with a range of benefits. Benefits include anti-bacterial, antiseptic, astringent, anti-oxidant, anti-irritant, anti-allergenic, soothing, healing, clarifying and moisturising properties. Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the dermis and epidermis of the skin. It functions to hydrate the skin. When applied topically, hyaluronic acid enhances skin moisture and skin appearance. |
