What was deep and meaningful when you were eighteen, seems childish and embarrassing now you are older, and we’re not even going to get into talking about getting partners’ names in a love heart!
If you do now regret your tattoo, there is a way you can say goodbye to past mistakes.
Laser tattoo removal is now more affordable than ever, and with the advances in technology, the treatment is less painful with better results!
Why tattoos are permanent
If you draw on your arm with a pen, it will eventually come off, so what’s the difference?
Well obviously the ink is under your skin with a tattoo, and not above it, making it permanent… but in that case, if they are permanent, why do tattoos fade over time?
The answer lies in your body’s ability to attack and destroy the ink particles which are injected into your dermis, or inner layer of skin.
The ink particles come in different sizes, and the smaller ones are tiny enough to be absorbed by white blood cells, while the larger ones survive and stay where they are.
This is why tattoos fade over time but are still permanent; there literally isn’t as much ink as there was originally, but what’s left behind will stay there forever.

These are then small enough to be absorbed by the body and get flushed out naturally through the kidneys.
The lasers used for tattoo removal are among the strongest and most intense on the market, mostly because getting rid of something that's supposed to be permanent isn't an easy process.
What are the risks?
The week following treatment the area might become red and swollen, and can actually look pretty similar to getting a tattoo in the first place.
And just like getting a tattoo, the pain felt during the treatment is entirely dependent on the person, so as a general rule, if you could take getting a tattoo all those years ago, you can more than likely handle tattoo removal now.
The feeling has been compared to having a rubber band snapped against the skin, but because the laser literally “pops” the ink pigments, treatment can sound worse than it feels.
How long does it take?
Because every tattoo is different, there is no set time or number of treatments, but anywhere from six to twelve sessions is about average, depending on your unique requirements.
On top of that, you’ll need to give your body time to heal between each session, so at least six weeks between each visit.
Tattoo removal is a long-term plan and not something you can get done in a couple of days before your holiday to the Gold Coast.
