Dr Henryk Poczwa (MBCHB, F.NZSCM, F.ACCS, F.ACP, Diploma in Lipoplasty) Dr Henryk Poczwa (MBCHB) graduated from Otago Medical School, New Zealand in 1977. Following a period in general practice and obstetrics (delivering babies for many years), he went on to follow his passion in venous (vein) and cosmetic (appearance) medicine in the early 1990’s.
Dr Poczwa has a passion for aesthetic beauty, which has encouraged him to study Tumescent Liposculpture under Dr Jeffery Klein, California, USA. Liposculpture is liposuction of fat, performed under local anaesthesia. Compared to traditional liposuction, performed under general anaesthetic, it is a safe, walk-in, walk-out procedure.
Dr Poczwa is also one of only a few NZ physicians who perform mini thread-lifts of the face and neck to support sagging skin.
Dr Poczwa pioneered and performed the first EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) treatment of large varicose veins in New Zealand in 2002. He has successfully treated well over 1000 cases including some of the largest varicose veins seen in this hemisphere.

Dr Poczwa continues to attend numerous workshops and conferences to keep up-skilling and to keep the Vein and Skin Clinic at the forefront of venous and cosmetic medicine.
Dr. Jarrod Newell (MBChB, FRNZCGP, DipPaed) Dr. Jarorod Newell graduated from the University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2013. Jarrod has a passion for venous and skin procedures. Jarrod treats veins and skin in Wellington, Southland and from his own Vein and Skin practice in New Plymouth.
After years of dedication to Phelbology Jarrod has become Southercross affiliated to treat Varicose Veins using, laser, radiofrequency, cyanoacrylate (glue) and ultrasound guided sclerotherapy. He has obtained a Diploma of Phlebology and two certificates in venous ultrasound. Jarrod has a close working relationship with Dr Poczwa in his Wellington clinic. Jarrod also works closely with Mr Murray Cox, Taranaki’s only Vascular Surgeon to collaborate and manage complex venous cases
Jarrod is our busiest skin management doctor. He runs weekly clinics in Wellington and New Plymouth treating/removing skin cancer. Jarrod also has a passion for removing unsightly benign lesions using the Ellman Surgitron after ruling out malignant pathology.
Jarrod married Henryk and Bernadette’s daughter Tamsyn who is also a doctor working at V&S. He is proud to be part of the family business and looks forward to building upon the legacy and reputation that Henryk and Bernadette have spent the last 25 year creating.
Whilst studying towards my MBChB at the University of Auckland I have been fortunate enough to also gain knowledge and training within the field of Aesthetic Medicine. Aesthetic Medicine is a wonderful field full of advancing technology, techniques, and excellent outcomes, and working within the Vein & Skin Clinic I have had access to training from some of the best injectors in the country, as well as learning from cutting edge international cosmetic companies.
Being a Doctor, I find it extremely important to know where my product has been sourced, how it is best used and place emphasis on working with a patient to achieve realistic and beautiful results! Prior to becoming a Doctor I trained in Fine Arts at Elam University, and I like to think now that my natural flair for aesthetics and beauty is given an outlet with the medical world. I am able to utilise my rigorous medical training and aesthetic knowledge to offer optimal individualised treatment for my clients.
I love that the Vein & Skin clinic is a family business, and my mother (Bernadette Poczwa), is a constant source of inspiration for me within the field of Aesthetic Medicine. My father and my husband also work within the business as Varicose Vein Specialists and my sister is the practice manager. Together we inspire each other to gain knowledge, master techniques and offer clients the best service possible.
Dr Gal Carmi is a General Practitioner with a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers and procedural skin medicine. Based at the Vein & Skin Clinic in New Plymouth, Dr Carmi provides comprehensive skin assessments, mole checks, and treatment of both benign and cancerous skin lesions, with a strong focus on achieving the best possible cosmetic outcome for each patient.
Using advanced dermatoscopy techniques, Dr Carmi carefully assesses skin lesions and moles to assist in the early detection and accurate diagnosis of skin cancers. He offers a range of treatment options including Surgitron radiofrequency ablation, minor surgical procedures, and excision of suspicious or confirmed skin lesions.
Dr Carmi is passionate about combining thorough medical care with attention to aesthetic and cosmetic healing, understanding the importance of both patient health and confidence. His calm, professional approach helps patients feel informed and supported throughout their treatment journey, whether attending for routine mole checks, lesion removal, or skin cancer management.
Leisa Betts is an experienced Theatre Nurse who works alongside Dr Jarrod Newell and Dr Tamsyn Newell, assisting with the assessment and treatment of varicose veins at New Plymouth Vein and Skin Clinic.
With a strong background in surgical nursing and patient care, Leisa plays an important role in ensuring treatments run smoothly and comfortably for our patients. She assists during procedures, provides support throughout the treatment journey, and helps maintain the high standards of care our clinic is known for.
Known for her warm, reassuring manner and attention to detail, Leisa is dedicated to helping patients feel informed, comfortable, and well cared for from consultation through to recovery.
Ari is a Registered Nurse with more than 20 years of experience in Cosmetic Appearance Medicine, bringing extensive knowledge in cosmetic injectables, medical-grade lasers, and non-surgical facial rejuvenation. After eight years away, she has returned to the Vein & Skin Clinic team, bringing with her a wealth of international experience gained across New Zealand, London, and Sydney.
During her time in Australia, Ari worked within some of Sydney’s leading cosmetic practices, including as Director of Nursing for renowned Cosmetic Liposculpture Surgeon Dr S K Lim, and as Cosmetic Nurse alongside Dr B Williamson, a respected specialist in laser and appearance medicine. These roles provided advanced training and hands-on experience in facial aesthetics, laser technologies, and combination treatment approaches.
Ari has a strong aesthetic eye and a passion for achieving balanced, natural-looking results. She is highly skilled in facial assessment and uses anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, and advanced skin rejuvenation treatments to create refreshed, harmonious outcomes tailored to each individual patient. Her approach focuses on enhancing natural beauty while maintaining facial expression and authenticity.
Passionate about ongoing education and evolving technologies within the aesthetics industry, Ari combines experience, artistry, and clinical expertise to help patients feel confident and cared for throughout their treatment journey.
Hannah Johnson is a Registered Nurse at Vein and Skin Clinic New Plymouth, with a passion for aesthetic medicine and skin health. She provides cosmetic injectable treatments with a warm, professional approach, focusing on natural-looking results and personalised patient care.
Hannah also performs the assessment and treatment of benign skin lesions using Surgitron radiofrequency technology — a precise technique used to remove a range of common skin growths with minimal downtime and an excellent cosmetic outcome.
Known for her gentle manner and attention to detail, Hannah is dedicated to helping patients feel confident in their skin while delivering safe, high-quality treatments within a medical clinic environment.
Dr Tamsyn Newell brings a thoughtful, medically grounded approach to Aesthetic Medicine, with a particular passion for natural-looking cosmetic injectable treatments. Combining advanced medical training with a refined aesthetic eye, she is dedicated to helping patients feel confident, refreshed, and beautifully balanced — never overdone.
Working within the Vein & Skin Aesthetics Clinic has allowed Dr Tamsyn to train alongside some of New Zealand’s leading cosmetic injectors, while also gaining exposure to the latest international techniques, products, and innovations in the rapidly evolving field of aesthetics. She places strong emphasis on safety, precision, and personalised treatment planning, taking the time to understand each patient’s concerns and goals before creating a tailored approach.
Dr Tamsyn specialises in cosmetic injectables including anti-wrinkle treatments, dermal fillers, facial balancing, lip enhancement, and skin rejuvenation procedures. Her philosophy centres around achieving elegant, subtle results that enhance natural beauty while maintaining facial harmony and expression.

As Clinic Director and co-owner of Vein & Skin Aesthetics in Wellington, Angelique brings a passionate and modern approach to skin health, laser therapy, and aesthetic treatments. With a strong focus on the long-term health and longevity of the skin, she is dedicated to helping patients achieve natural, healthy results through advanced technology, personalised treatment planning, and evidence-based skincare.
Angelique is NZQF accredited in Cosmetic Lasers and Intense Light Source Therapies, and has extensive hands-on experience working with a wide range of medical-grade technologies including Fraxel laser resurfacing, IPL rejuvenation, laser hair removal, RF microneedling, vascular laser treatments, and advanced skin therapies. She has a particular interest in emerging technologies and continually seeks out further education and training to ensure patients have access to the latest and most effective treatments available within the aesthetic industry.
Alongside her passion for devices and skin treatments, Angelique is highly knowledgeable in professional skincare and cosmeceutical ingredients. She is fully trained in the application and treatment integration of the skincare ranges stocked within the clinic, allowing her to create comprehensive treatment plans that combine in-clinic procedures with tailored at-home skincare for optimal long-term skin health.

Melissa Congdon is an experienced Beautician, Aesthetician, and Laser Specialist who brings over 14 years of industry experience to the Vein & Skin Aesthetics team. Passionate about skin health and patient care, Melissa is known for her warm approach, extensive treatment knowledge, and ability to create personalised skin journeys tailored to each individual client.
Melissa has a strong interest in holistic skin health and believes in combining advanced aesthetic treatments with long-term skin maintenance and education. She specialises in bespoke medical-grade facials, professional skincare treatments, skin needling, and advanced rejuvenation therapies including exosome-supported treatments. Her approach focuses on supporting healthy, resilient skin while helping patients achieve natural, radiant results.
Working within the Vein & Skin Aesthetics environment allows Melissa to combine traditional beauty therapy principles with advanced medical-grade technologies and evidence-based skincare. After a long career in hospitality, Lynne is lending her expertise and wealth of knowledge to the New Plymouth Vein and Skin Clinic branch. Keeping it within the family, once again, Lynne is Dr Jarrod Newell’s mother and Dr Tamsyn Newell’s mother-in-law. So, it’s wonderful to have such a tight knit family operation running. Having grown up around the world of Aesthetic Medicine through her mother, Ari, Stephanie has developed a strong interest in the beauty and aesthetics industry. She particularly enjoys the creative side of the business, with a growing passion for marketing, social media, and client engagement.
Stephanie also has a keen interest in beauty therapy and skin treatments, and enjoys continuing to expand her knowledge within the field. Sue Morresey is the friendly and experienced Medical Receptionist based at the Vein & Skin Clinic in New Plymouth. With a warm and professional approach, Sue plays an important role in helping patients feel welcomed, informed, and supported throughout their experience with the clinic.
Sue assists with the coordination and booking of appointments across a range of services including varicose vein treatments, skin cancer procedures, and aesthetic injectable consultations. In addition to supporting the New Plymouth clinic, she also helps manage patient bookings and clinic coordination for the Whanganui and Taupō satellite vein clinics.
Known for her approachable nature and strong organisational skills, Sue is passionate about providing excellent patient care and ensuring the day-to-day running of the clinic is smooth and efficient. Alex Arona has been an integral part of the Vein & Skin team for nearly a decade, bringing extensive organisational knowledge, dedication, and behind-the-scenes expertise to the business. Over the years, she has played an important role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Wellington clinic, particularly within accounts administration and business management.
Alex now works closely alongside Dr Henryk Poczwa in the Southland Varicose Vein Clinic, helping coordinate and manage the ongoing expansion of vein services throughout the region. Acting in both a management and executive assistant role, she is responsible for organising Southland clinic schedules, patient consultations, and the logistical coordination required to ensure clinics run efficiently and smoothly.
Known for her reliability, professionalism, and strong attention to detail, Alex is passionate about delivering excellent patient support and maintaining the high standard of care the clinic is known for.
