Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

As we get older, our skin naturally produces less collagen and fewer fibroblasts – the cells responsible for keeping skin firm, smooth and elastic. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a treatment that uses your body’s own platelets (taken from a small sample of your blood) to stimulate natural skin repair and regeneration. The results from this treatment is improved skin radiance and glow.

PRP contains concentrated growth factors and proteins that play a key role in tissue healing. The treatment stimulates the body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid, leading to better hydration and firmer skin. When injected into the skin, these platelets also help support the production of collagen and elastin, enhancing overall skin tone and texture.

It can be particularly helpful for reducing the appearance of fine lines and crepey skin. Because the results come from your body’s natural healing response, a course of treatments is usually recommended – typically 3 to 4 sessions spaced about a month apart. Ongoing maintenance treatments can be done every 6 to 12 months to help sustain the benefits.

PRP is also used to help treat certain types of hair loss. When injected into the scalp, it can support hair follicle function and stimulate growth in areas affected by thinning or early-stage alopecia.

Who is the ideal candidate for Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is ideal for anyone looking to improve the overall quality and appearance of their skin using a natural, regenerative approach. It’s especially suitable for:

  • Individuals noticing early signs of ageing – like fine lines, dullness, or mild skin laxity
  • People with thinning or crepey skin, particularly in delicate areas such as under the eyes or neck
  • Those who prefer treatments that use their body’s own biology, rather than synthetic fillers or solutions
  • Clients wanting a gradual, more natural-looking result without significant downtime
  • Men and women experiencing hair thinning or early-stage hair loss (in the case of PRP for scalp)

PRP is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have active skin infections, certain blood disorders, or are taking specific medications that affect healing. A full consultation will always be carried out to determine if PRP is the right option for you.

Common Treatment Areas

This treatment is well-suited to areas where the skin is thinner or showing early signs of ageing – including:

  • Under the eyes
  • Neck and chest (décolletage)
  • Full face
  • Backs of hands

FAQ's

How does PRP work?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. A small amount of your blood is taken and processed to isolate a concentrated amount of platelets – which are rich in growth factors. These are then injected into targeted areas of your skin (or scalp) to support natural regeneration and repair.

What areas can be treated with PRP?

PRP is commonly used to treat:

  • Under-eye area (for fine lines and dark circles)
  • Neck and décolletage
  • Full face
  • Backs of hands

It can also be used on the scalp to help with hair thinning or early-stage hair loss.

Is PRP safe?

Yes – because PRP uses your own blood, the risk of an allergic reaction or rejection is extremely low. All injections are performed in a sterile clinical setting by trained professionals.

How many treatments will I need?

We usually recommend a course of 3 to 4 sessions, spaced about a month apart, for best results. After your initial treatment plan, maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months can help you maintain the benefits long-term.

When will I see results?

Because PRP works by stimulating your body’s natural repair process, results appear gradually. Most people start noticing improvements in skin texture and tone within a few weeks, with more visible changes after the full course of treatments.

Is there any downtime?

Most clients experience some redness, mild swelling, or bruising at the injection sites for a day or two. You can typically return to normal activities shortly after your appointment.

Can PRP help with hair loss?

Yes – PRP is commonly used to treat hair thinning and early-stage alopecia. When injected into the scalp, it can help reactivate dormant hair follicles and support new hair growth. A series of treatments is recommended for optimal outcomes.
