What is photorejuvenation treatment and how does it work?

The Vein and Skin Clinic are experts when it comes to Photorejuvenation treatment. We utilise various methods including Lumenis M22 IPL, Quantum IPL, Fraxel (Laser) and Omnilux (LED) to make your skin more youthful in appearance.

What is Photorejuvenation?

Photorejuvenation is a skin treatment that uses lasers, intense pulsed light (IPL) or photodynamic therapy to treat skin conditions. The treatment creates small, controlled wounds on the skin, encouraging it to heal itself by creating new cells. Photorejuvenation is safe, non-invasive and can be tailored to each patient.

What conditions can Photorejuvenation help with?

Photorejuvenation can helps with various skin conditions, including but not limited to;

  • Age spots
  • Sun spots
  • Sun damage
  • Mottled pigmentation
  • Ruddy/dull complexion
  • Freckles
  • Rosacea (redness of nose and/or cheeks)
  • Facial imperfections

What is involved with Photorejuvenation using IPL?

Each patient is designed their own treatment plan, unique to their specific needs. Usually, each patient undergoes several appointments, each lasting around 20 – 40 minutes.

The procedure is generally harmless and totally non-intrusive. To start, a cold gel is applied to the area to be treated. Because we are using bursts of light, dark glasses are worn to protect the patient’s eyes.

The IPL hand piece is gently applied to the skin, and pulses of light are emitted. If any discomfort is felt, it is very mild, like the light snapping of a rubber band on the skin. If in very rare cases this discomfort is too much, an anaesthetic cream may be used beforehand, but is seldom required.

Completion of a course of treatment provides excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effects and high satisfaction.

However, in some patients swelling, excessive pigmentation and bruising can occur post treatment and can take a week to settle.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment

IPL treatment is the use of intense pulses of light at certain wavelengths to break down cells, allowing them to be reabsorbed by the body. It differs from laser treatment because we can change the wavelength of the light, targeting specific cells and conditions.

IPL treatment offers a gentle, non-invasive, long lasting reduction of unwanted hair on the face, back, legs, bikini line or any other body area.  A series of sessions is required depending on the area of body treated, and individual needs.

Skin restoration

IPL Treatment is used to combat a number of skin conditions. From sun-damaged skin to freckles, liver spots and birth marks, IPL Light pulses penetrate the tissue and the light is absorbed either superficially by broken capillaries and dark pigment, or deeper by larger vessels and collagen. New collagen fibres are laid down, replacing the destroyed ones, giving  the skin a renewed and more youthful appearance.
