Vein treatments and procedures we offer
Varicose Veins
Here at the Vein and Skin Clinic, we offer the very latest in treatment for varicose veins. With almost two decades of pioneering work in New Zealand, we have perfected non-surgical procedures which will have you walking in and out of the clinic on the same day.
EVLA (Cool Touch Laser)
EVLA treatment is a simple day procedure, and the patient remains awake during the treatment. Anaesthetic is used to numb the vein, so there is no pain, and this procedure can be used to treat even the largest of varicose veins.
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
UGS allows accurate visualisation and mapping of all leg veins, and an experienced sonographer assists the Phlebologist during the procedure. It is often more suitable for post-surgical recurrence and for some small varicose veins, and again is a simple day procedure. All normal activities can be resumed immediately, although compression stockings may need to be worn for a couple of weeks.
Reticular veins
The Vein and Skin Clinic use Microsclerotherapy to treat reticular veins. Much like the above UGS treatment, a very fine needle is used to inject the vein with a chemical foam. This foam breaks down the vein walls, allowing the body to reabsorb the cells.
Spider veins
IPL treatment is the use of intense pulses of light at certain wavelengths to break down cells, allowing them to be reabsorbed by the body. Healing from IPL treatment is often compared to having a slight sunburn, and there are rarely any serious side-effects.
Why choose the Vein and Skin Clinic?
Dr Poczwa pioneered and performed the first EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) treatment of large varicose veins in New Zealand in 2002. Since then, numerous Phlebologists and Vascular Surgeons across the country have adopted the procedure, to the point where EVLA treatment is replacing traditional surgery of varicose veins.
EVLA is a walk-in, walk-out procedure, allowing minimum disruption of the patient’s life.
Dr Poczwa has successfully treated around 3,000 cases including some of the largest varicose veins on record in New Zealand. All staff at the Vein and Skin Clinic are continually being up-skilled, attending educational workshops and industry conferences both home and abroad, to ensure their patients are receiving the best and most up to date treatments available.
If you have any questions about these veins treatments, or are unsure which category you fall into, book a consultation today and we’ll explain which treatment is best for you and your condition.
Our friendly and experienced staff will be happy to help.
