At Vein and Skin Clinic, we have been working with Botox for years, literally giving thousands of treatments in that time. We have heard many different questions about Botox from people, most of them based on misconceptions or half-truths.
We want to set the record straight on Botox injections, so we’ve taken the top 5 myths surrounding the treatment and busted them for good.
Myth - Botox is unsafe
Botox injections have been used in appearance medicine daily, all over the world, for the last 20 years. With millions of treatments administered in that time, along with thousands of clinical papers on the subject, there is plenty of evidence to show that Botox is safe to use.
The confusion may come from the early days of the treatment, when people were told that Botox comes from the botulinum toxin, which is associated with food poisoning. While Botox is derived from a protein found in botulinum toxin, the levels injected into the body are not high enough to be considered toxic.
Myth - Botox gives an unnatural look
When administered with experience, the result is noticeable – it’ more of a result that says – “you look great”. The myth exists because only the bad results are noticed and not the overwhelmingly good results of Botox.
Myth - Botox is only for crow’s feet
This meant it could be used to treat certain medical conditions, such as spasms, ticks, and nervous twitches. Today it is still used for medical purposes, including excessive sweating, headaches from muscle tension and teeth grinding.
Myth - Botox is for women only
Myth - Botox injections are painful
